160 full-page activities for CKLA-aligned Grade 1 Skills Unit 1, Lessons 1–32: five pages for each lesson, one activity per page. Unit 1 is where first graders build the alphabetic code a few letters at a time, and these pages follow it lesson by lesson: p, c, g, n and a first; then i, o, t, d; m, f, v; s, z, h; b, l, r; w, e, u; j, y; x, k; ch, sh, th; ng and qu; and the double-letter spellings ck, ll, ss, ff, zz and more. Tricky words arrive on the same schedule, from a and I (Lesson 3) to the, who, said, says, was, what, where, here and there.

Every page is written to its lesson. Student-read words are checked against the letters and sounds taught so far, so a child never meets a letter that has not been taught yet. The stories are original, with recurring animal characters, and every story question asks the child to choose or write: nothing is filled in ahead of time.

How the pages work: word-work pages show exactly one gray worked example, and place-or-write pages let children put a card in a box or simply write the word. No cutting is ever required, and every write-in box is sized for first-grade handwriting. Page types change from page to page: letter tracing, match and circle pages, beginning and ending sounds, sound boxes, word chains, sorts, tiles, read and draw, tricky-word color-by-word and path puzzles, naming words, word hunts, bingo, alphabet and capital-letter pages, fluency rows and short stories with questions.
