105 full-page activities for CKLA-aligned Grade 1 Skills Unit 7, Lessons 1–21: five pages for each lesson, one activity per page. Unit 7 gives first graders two more ways to spell the long a sound and one for long o, and these pages follow it lesson by lesson: ai and ay (Lesson 1), oa (11), noun-verb agreement, commas in a series, quotation marks, friendly letters and instructional writing, plus the spelling words who, by and your.

Every page is written to its lesson. Student-read words are checked against the sounds taught so far, so a child never meets a spelling that has not been taught yet. The stories, letters and instructions are original, and every story question asks the child to choose or write, and to name the sentence that proves the answer: nothing is filled in ahead of time.

How the pages work: word-work pages show exactly one gray worked example, and place-or-write pages let children put a card in a box or simply write the word. No cutting is ever required, and every write-in box is sized for first-grade handwriting. Page types change from page to page: spelling words and assessments, sorts, verb-choice and now-or-before pages, add-an-ending pages, editing with commas and quotation marks, a friendly letter, planning, drafting and publishing instructions, roll-and-read, fluency rows and short stories with questions.
