110 full-page activities for CKLA-aligned Grade 2 Skills Unit 1, Lessons 1–22: five pages for each lesson, one activity per page. Unit 1 is where second graders review the whole basic code, and these pages follow it lesson by lesson: short vowels and consonants (Lessons 1–5), story and word reading checks with compound words and descriptions (6–10), double letters (11–12), two-syllable words with -ing (13), the spellings of g and c (14–15), qu, wh, wr and kn (16), ge and ve (17), ce and tch (18), past tense -ed (19), s and n (20–21), plus the tricky words the, was, of, do, how, what, one, could, there, said, says and word.

Every page is written to its lesson. Student-read words are checked against everything taught in Grade 1 plus the tricky words introduced so far in this unit, so a child never meets a spelling that has not been taught yet. The stories are original, and every story question asks the child to choose or write: nothing is filled in ahead of time.

How the pages work: word-work pages show exactly one gray worked example, and place-or-write pages let children put a card in a box or simply write the word. No cutting is ever required, and every write-in box is sized for second-grade handwriting. Page types change from page to page: word chains, sorts, word hunts, compound-word pages, tricky-word color-by-word, add-an-ending and past-tense pages, planning and writing a description, read-and-draw, roll-and-read, fluency rows and short stories with questions.
