CKLA-Aligned Grade 2 Skills Unit 6 Worksheets (Lessons 1–36)
74 full-page activities for CKLA-aligned Grade 2 Skills Unit 6, Lessons 1–36, written to fill the page with real second-grade work: 8 to 12 items on most pages, picture sorts, word-bank sorts, finish-the-sentence pages, put-the-words-in-order pages and stories with three-choice questions plus answers written in sentences. Unit 6 is built around The War of 1812 and follows its lessons: ph as /f/ (Lessons 1–2), ea as in bread (3–4), the history words Great Britain, Europe, native, Americans, signature and war (5), ar and or as /er/ (6 and 8), adverbs (7–9), complete and run-on sentences (10 and 12), ch as /k/ (11), tricky i (13–16), the schwa (19), a after w as in want and wash (25–28), and ABC order to the second letter, plus the tricky words imagine, soldier, Washington, iron, special, shoe, early, whose, broad, bomb, Andrew and new.
Nearly every word a child reads is decodable through Unit 6, or is a tricky word taught by then, and each spelling is used only after the lesson that teaches it. A few everyday words (hair, many, put, shiny) appear so the sentences and stories sound natural. The stories are original, factual and written for second graders, and every story question asks the child to choose or write: nothing is filled in ahead of time.
How the pages work: word-work pages show exactly one gray worked example, and place-or-write pages let children put a card in a box or simply write the word. No cutting is ever required, and every write-in line is sized for a child's handwriting. Fluency rows ask the child to cross out the one nonsense word in each row, and every page can be done by a child working alone. Unit 6 teaches no spelling-change rule, so the adverb page is Just Add ly.
