Fundations-Aligned Partner Reader's Theater · Level 3 Unit 5

2 partner reader's theater scripts for Fundations® Level 3, Unit 5: “Seven Kittens and a Wagon” and “The Box Rocket”. Each script is written for two readers, Partner A and Partner B. Every word is decodable through Unit 5 or is a taught trick word, so partners can read the script on their own.

Each script opens with a watercolor cover scene that shows the two parts. The script itself is about 20 lines (18–20 per script), split evenly between Partner A and Partner B, with a few lines both partners read together. After reading, a Think and Talk page has 4 multiple-choice questions plus a “say it with feeling” fluency line, and a Write About It page has 3 written questions to answer in whole sentences. A one-page answer key covers both scripts.

Scripts in this unit:
• “Seven Kittens and a Wagon”: Ruby (the big sister) and Cody (the little brother), 18 lines
• “The Box Rocket”: Rusty (the captain) and Dart (the co-pilot), 20 lines

In this unit — Skill: Schwa in unstressed syllables; -et. Sounds: Schwa in an unaccented closed syllable, and -et. New trick words: brother, carry (in bold in the scripts).

Use it for partner reading, fluency and expression practice, small groups or literacy centers. It comes in two editions, Color and Printer-Friendly (one PDF each, 11 pages: the 2 scripts with their question pages, then the answer key).
